Let me start off by saying that I am just an ordinary fan. I have ZERO connections. I am not trying to copy Chris Botta or even B.D. Gallof. All I am going to do is put my two cents in about various happening's that come about in Islander Country.
My perspective will be as an outsider. I currently live in Rochester, NY. That is about 6 hours away from lovely Uniondale, NY. I am 27 years old (born in the great year of 1982), which means that I was a whopping 1 year old when the Islanders won their last Stanley Cup. I was born in Smithtown but moved up to the Albany suburbs when I was 3. So I am an "upstater" and proud of it. I attended college at SUNY Brockport and graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2005 and decided to stay out in the Western NY area after graduation (I guess I just love the snow). I will keep politics out of this blog at all costs; unless of course there are politics being played in the Lighthouse Project approval process (which I will be writing a blog about in the near future).
I am a life long Islanders fan. My father started watching the team in 1975 and has been a fan ever since. He is why I became a fan of the team. He lived through the dynasty years and I am very jealous of that. In recent years he has become more and more irritated with this team as most Islander fans have. He does not have the same passion for this team as he once did. But he wants to have that passion again, and is looking for something to bring it back (John Tavares and a new building would be a great start).
I, however, have never lost any passion for this team. But I did not live through the dynasty years. I only have 1993 and the Toronto series in 2002 to relive. I have only seen video of Bobby Nystrom's goal at 7:11 of the first overtime period in game 6 against Philadelphia. I have only seen video of Bossy scoring 50 goals in 5o games. And only seen video of Kenny Morrow scoring the overtime goal in "the greatest hockey game I have ever seen" in 1984 against the Rangers (by the way, I know they didn't have instant replay back then, but how did the referee NOT call a high sticking on Don Maloney's tying goal??). So me not losing any of my passion for the team has a lot to do with my age. I am sure I would be far more upset with this team and all of the drama that has gone on the past 15 years if I was old enough to witness the greatest moments.
Now that you have my history, lets move on! I am not too sure what I am looking to accomplish with this blog. I am hoping that a few readers will read what I write and comment on what I have to say. I want this to be an open discussion of things that are going on with our favorite team. If I say something that you think is stupid or just plain wrong, tell me! I openly welcome a debate of my opinions. I know my opinions are not always going to be correct and will not always be popular. If you make a good counter point on any of my thoughts, I will gladly concede defeat and change my opinion. As Socrates said, "I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing."
